From April 17–20, 2025, surfers from across Tasmania will converge on the breathtaking coastline of Marrawah for the 50th Anniversary of the Rip Curl West Coast Classic (WCC). Set against the wild beauty of Tasmania’s west coast, just like its 2 wind farms further north, Woolnorth renewables is supporting the event for the first time this year, and it couldn’t be more thrilled to be supporting the iconic 50th milestone.
Marrawah, located near the northern end of the Tarkine wilderness and bordering the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, offers competitors world-class waves against a backdrop of rugged natural beauty. Over the decades, West Point—nestled within the conservation area—has played host to many memorable WCC events, delivering challenging waves ranging from half a metre to over five metres in height.
The Rip Curl West Coast Classic is Tasmania’s premier surfing competition and a family-friendly event that celebrates inclusivity. With over 120 competitors in 14 divisions—ranging from Under 14s to Over 60s—the event also highlights the Open Women’s and Open Men’s categories, which have long been a focal point. Notably, the WCC was the first Australian surfing event to offer equal prize money to female and male competitors in the Open divisions, reflecting its commitment to fairness and progress.
This year’s milestone event takes things to the next level as Surfing Tasmania welcomes participants not only from across the country but also from around the globe. With locations shifting based on conditions, the competition spans Nettley Bay, Periwinkle Beach, Bluff Beach, and Green Point Beach. The event’s eco-consciousness is showcased by its adherence to a Parks Wildlife & Heritage permit, ensuring no environmental footprint is left behind.
Woolnorth Renewables proudly supports this local west coast event – with world class surfing harnessing the power of nature. With two wind farms located nearby, the sponsorship for us reflects a dedication to grass roots community events in the places we operate.
