Woolnorth Renewables were proud to be a 2024 event sponsor of the gruelling ‘Devils Cardigan’ cycling race.
Held on June 22 this year, the race offered a challenging gravel course of either 54km or 106km.
Starting from one of Tasmania’s iconic biking destinations, Derby, and finishing in the neighbouring town of Branxholm, the race holds a formidable reputation for being a tough event.
From a wintery and frosty start, race competitors took on the unforgiving climbs and breath-taking descents, traversing through our glorious Tasmanian landscapes of wet forests, deep rain forested gullies and open alpine country. The full course route with ascents at Mutual Valley, Ralph Falls and Mt Albert.
The longer course, consisting of 106km of unforgiving terrain and roughly 2300m of vertical ascent, was also the AusCycling Gravel National Championship, a prestigious event on the Australian cycling calendar.
This year’s long course winners, Brendan Johnston & Courtney Sherwell, were awarded the legendary handmade woolly cardigan, and a 10kg sack of local Tassie potatoes!
The year’s event was heralded a major success with over 476 entrants, with 165 interstate and overseas competitors.
Event Official Gareth Sutcliffe said “We estimate the race lifted local accommodation usage with over 2000 visitors nights spent in the North East and we conservatively estimate the event contributed around $600k to the local economy over the weekend”.
Congratulations to everyone that entered this epic event!
